Kent Hodges Memorial
1/2 Marathon
Sunday, September 28, 2008, 8:00am
On September 30, 2007, the Gallup community lost a dear friend. Less than one mile from the finish line of the Squash Blossom 1/2 Marathon, Kent Hodges collapsed from a massive heart attack. In honor of Kent, the race has been renamed and there are several activities planned to remember him.

The race will open in prayer and each participant will receive a prize for crossing the finish line. A category has been added to encourage particpation called the "Finish for Kent Relay" Teams of three are welcome to register for this open category and each leg is about 4.5 miles.
Memorial Walk
There is also a guided Memorial Walk, leading a group from the run finish line at 8:15am, walking the final mile of the 1/2 Marathon to the spot where Kent collapsed. A memorial will be unveiled to the group and a moment of prayer will ensue. There is no charge and folks are welcome to bring flowers or other tokens to leave at Kent's Trailside Memorial.

The 1/2 Marathon is a difficult course and should not be attempted by novice runners. The events are held on the High Desert Trail System, a challenging trail with some rugged technical sections and short steep sections. The trail weaves through pristine mesas full of junipers and pinions with breathtaking views! Come out and join us for the Kent Hodges Memorial events.
